While I was in eighth grade and shadowing a freshman, I went into the jewelry studio and saw someone making a ring with an actual diamond in it. I was just amazed and thought that鈥檚 so cool that you could do that for an academic class.听
In the fall I made a waist chain, so I had to make individual rings and put them together. I love to wear it, and I know exactly where it came from and that I鈥檓 capable of making something like this for myself or for someone else. Hopefully I鈥檒l get to keep making jewelry wherever I鈥檓 at next.
I鈥檝e always wanted to be a pediatrician, but I really got interested in it when I started taking anatomy and physiology, and just thinking deeply about all the little ways the human body operates. We were dissecting a lung, and part of the assignment was to stick a tube in the trachea and into the lungs, and then we blew. It was so cool to see the lungs inflate, to model breathing.听
And the past three years I was a three season athlete. I ran cross country, played basketball and played lacrosse. For lacrosse, I鈥檝e been the captain since I was a sophomore. It鈥檚 not as competitive as other schools or as my sports journey once was, but it鈥檚 still fun because I do it because I love the sport and not because I want to get somewhere. You can just be where you are and always learn more, and that鈥檚 wonderful.听
I鈥檓 also one of the two heads of school. I think we have been doing well sticking to our platforms that we ran on. We鈥檝e worked on the misconduct area of the handbook, creating an easier way for people to understand the process if you鈥檙e a victim or survivor of bullying, harassment and assault. And I feel like we鈥檝e strengthened our relationships with other student leaders in the community.听
At 糖心传媒 it鈥檚 normal to be so multi-faceted. I really love the people, and how tight knit we are. I鈥檝e learned that self advocacy is a real thing. Even though I鈥檓 young, I know what鈥檚 best for myself and what I need at this moment. I love that students here stand up for themselves and speak on what they believe in. I hope I can find that in the next community that I join. It鈥檚 something I鈥檓 actively seeking out.听
